Soap operas and dramas are commonly watched on television and sometimes even on computers and laptops. You watch scenes and interpret the messages through visual means. But have you ever thought of other means of delivering drama? There is another way which people used to love – the radio drama, also called audio drama, radio play, audio play, or radio theatre. Well maybe that’s because it was the only available medium for drama then. Radio drama is similar to TV drama in terms of revolving around a story. Their primary difference is that radio drama uses only audio while TV drama uses both audio and video. So which of the two is better than the other?
Because it lacks the visual component, the drama relies on dialogue, sound effects and background music to make the listeners understand the story. With this medium, listeners are encouraged to have an active imagination for them to visualize the characters and the plot. In essence, creative thinking of the listener is being stimulated. The TV drama, on the other hand, gives the audience visual representation of the setting of the story in addition to the audio. The visual component is a very important factor influencing the understanding of the audience. As an audience, your only task is to interpret the messages according to what you see and what you hear. Only little imagination is required. But because understanding of the plot comes easy in TV dramas, it is easier to predict what will happen next.
Each of the media has its own pros and cons. People have loved these drama media and are continuously supporting dramas at present. But what entice people more is not the medium, but the story behind each drama. People are fond of listening or watching fictitious stories, which they relate to their lives. Sometimes, they use dramas in the hope of finding meaning to whatever is happening in their lives and making them realize the beauty of life and love.
